Filip Vanzieleghem was born in Belgium in 1973. After his photography studies in Antwerp, he began his career in 2001 in the advertising agency Ogilvy Brussels. At the age of 33, he opened his own photo studio in Brussels to work for luxury brands such as Delvaux, Scabal and Mercedes Benz, while collaborating with several Belgian magazines for his first series of portraits. Filip is interested in technically challenging images. He plays with colours, lighting and props in order to invent textures and compositions in which the object or the person can interact with structured and playful backgrounds. Framed and rarely alone, the subject of the picture emerges in its simple yet not simplistic essence, as its shadows and reflections give it a dynamic, three-dimensional feeling. His latest works include a series of portraits, where he rejects classical beauty to give room to the multi-faceted personalities of the men posing for him. He explores the subtle line between masculinity and femininity, underling specific body parts through untraditional angles. He often resorts to long exposures and complex lighting techniques to give depth to the body. In so doing, he wants to convey a sense of unnatural movement, social alienation and inner beauty. Filip is a soft-spoken photographer, with an eye for details through which he wants to tell an intimate story. As much the tale of a product, as the shadows of men.
